History and Nation Imagination: Igbo and the Videos of Nationalism

Chukwuma Okoye

Abstract

The inviolability of the nation/state has in recent times been violently
contested by some of the different national identities that forge the
nation entity. Instancing one such contestation in the Nigeria/Biafra
civil war, this paper examines the manner in which two Igbo video films
function as ethno-nationalist texts by presenting ideologically skewed
historical counter-narratives that present and defend the popular Igbo
position as a continuously marginalized nationality within the imagined
Nigerian community.
