As of August 7, 2004, Postcolonial Text became a formally recognized publication of the Association for Commonwealth Literature and Language Studies (ACLALS), with thanks owed to Ranjini Mendis who, during her term as president of the Canadian Association for Commonwealth Literature and Language Studies, founded the journal in 2003 with John Willinsky at the University of British Columbia.
